RCA RP5400 Clock Radio

I bought this at WalMart for $8. I originally wanted a digital tuner and a CD player, but realized I rarely change stations and buying a portable CD player separately would better suit my needs. This model is has well-designed features: green display on black background is more easily readable without glasses than a backlit display, the numbers are spaced nicely so they are easily read, the dual alarms are easy to independently set, changing time or alarm time is quick with fast and slow in both forward and reverse, the SmartSnooze where you can hit any top button and it activates the snooze, adjustable periods of time for SLEEP, NAP, and SNOOZE. It takes up minimal space on the nightstand. The two-position dimmer switch of the display is plenty of adjustment for all rooms. The numbers are large, and can easily be seen from a distance. The display shows the letters "AM" and "PM", which is handy when setting the alarm so you don't get it set 12 hours off. It also includes battery backup (9-Volt battery not included) for when power is lost. The negatives are that the reception is okay, but not great. Some medium-strength stations have noticeable interference. Tuning is awkward, since the station numbers are on the dial on the side. This really is a big weakness if you change stations very much. The sound quality is adequate, but not high fidelity. RCA's quality is typically spotty; I originally wanted a Sony. But the combination of features with the RCA RP5400 is really great, and the $8 price was stunningly low for a dual alarm clock radio. I highly recommend this model.
