The Bottom Line:
I recommend this if you need a basic low-priced alarm/radio that still has many convenient features.
I bought one of these for an office room clock, but liked it so much I ended up using it in the bedroom.
Firstly, I really like the "ramp-up" alarm tone. It wakes me up without feeling startled. It's a very firm beep tone which increases in volume. I believe it would wake up even heavy sleepers at it's peak sound level. It reaches the loud level about 40 seconds after it starts beeping.
The forward and backward buttons make it easy to set the time and alarm time. Another nice feature is programming your own snooze-button time.
The alarm indicators are easy to read which makes it clear whether the alarm is set or not. A bell symbol tells you the alarm beeper is set. A musical note indicates that you are set to wake to the radio.
It has a low profile and looks attractive. I have minimal space on the headboard, and this fits very well, being only about 6-1/2" wide. I'd recommend putting this clock somewhere where it won't be likely to fall though, since I don't think it would handle being dropped without breaking. The front plastic panel, which shows the time, looks particularly fragile. But that seems to be true of most clock radios anyway.
The green 0.9 inch LED display is bright enough if you like it bright. This model has a low-brightness switch, which dims the display if you want. It is still easily readable on the low setting too.
Don't expect to tune in many weaker radio stations, after all, this is a lower priced radio . The speaker is mono, and just good enough to fall asleep to. If you need a no-frills alarm/radio that still has convenient features you will probably be pleased with this one. This RCA mosdel is very economical...(the lowest price is about $8.00 at www.Walmart.com. ( They will deliver it to your local Walmart for free, then you pick it up there. )
