Better than the Archos, at what it was made to do!!

Pros Bright Screen, built in kickstand, Comes with the accessories.
Cons Beta testing on the public, not a great idea.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you have to have a portable video player now, this is the best one out today.
At the time I wrote this review, I put the LYRA above the ARCHOS because of the dark screen on the ARCHOS which has only two brightness settings. Last night I found a seperate brightness control on the ARCHOS to use while recording. Sorry RCA the nod now goes to ARCHOS!!

This is the first time I have bought a product the manufacturer knew was not ready to be released. They just figured the big stuff worked, so people will wait for the other features. Well, your wrong, people want the product when they pay for it. But since there are only two video players like this on the market, and this works better than the Archos, RCA can get away with having us wait for firmware updates.

Most people review the ARCHOS AV320 as a better unit and for the most part they are right. I bought both and have played them side by side for a week to see which one to keep. The Archos comes with better software and runs on a much better operating system. It has better navigation controls, more information on screen about the movies, MP3s and switches between different song, movies and features at least three times faster than the RCA. It also has a remote control, and can add a camera. With all that you would think it would be better, but it fails where you need it most.

The screen on the Lyra goes twice as bright as the Archos, in most places, the train, fast food stops, I could not see the Archos screen. Who cares about the features if you can't see the screen? The Lyra also comes with a case, lighter plug, recorder built in (archos makes you lug around another box), CF slot built in, car adapter, and a kick stand so you can actually watch it. This kick stand is a big deal, on the archos you need a brick behind it to tilt the thing.

The accessories with the LYRA makes the $150 cheaper Lyra more like $250 cheaper with the same size drive. The Lyra is much thinner and fits in your pocket, people might mistake the Archos for a tumor. The software issues should resolve with downloads, but if you want to play video and listen to MP3s only the Lyra works outside.

If you are only going to use it in the dark, the ARCHOS is better in every way, but with a sceen that is easily washed out by the sun, the Archos stays home while the Lyra comes out to play.
