Worst. Device. Ever.

Pros Design, accessories
Cons Everything else. Truely the worst device on the market.
Recommended it? No

I picked up this device for my recent 2 week trip. I wanted an mp3 player, and thought I might as well get one with cool video capabilities as well.

I hate this device.

Technically, it isn't useless or without nice features. The built in stand is nice. The audio quality is good... Read full review »

Pros It worked fairly well as an mp3 player...for 2 weeks.
Cons Known headphone jack issue......no interest in helping existing customers.
Recommended it? No

I purchased an RCA Lyra model 2780 in early January. This unit worked as expected for about 2 weeks before it exhibited what I found later to be a known flaw with the model, a faulty headphone jack.

I contacted RCA/Thomson to attempt to find a place to repair the unit, to be informed that... Read full review »

Pros Versatile, stores photos from CF card. Good color screen, can play video.
Cons Confusing navigation and organization of folders. Firmware still missing some functions.
Recommended it? Yes

After seeing that RCA had updated the software I bought a Lyra RD2780 from Amazon. Generally I'm happy with it. I bought it mainly to store and view digital photos that I shoot on photo shoots and trips. It does a good job of transferring photos from my CF card to the Lyra though viewing 6... Disappointing audio quality and very slow

bynhunt Mar 11, 2004

Pros Nice specs, full set of accessories, cables, case, etc.
Cons Horrible sound quality, hard-to-use interface.
Recommended it? No

Nice looking package that disappoints in several dimensions. The worst feature is the very poor audio quality. I listen to quite a bit of classical music, and it all sounds like listening through broken glass - especially pure strings, or woodwind. These are files I encoded myself at 400Kbps/VBR,... Lyra is worth the $$$

Pros Everything is included, works per specifications
Cons Some features are not yet enabled
Recommended it? Yes

I have owned a RD2780 for a few weeks now, and I have to say that the player works very well. The USB 2.0 connection is fast (~20 minutes to transfer about 4 Gb of music). You can connect a CF card in the reader, to transfer pictures or other files to the device. When you connect the Lyra to your... Read full review »

Better than the Archos, at what it was made to do!!

Pros Bright Screen, built in kickstand, Comes with the accessories.
Cons Beta testing on the public, not a great idea.
Recommended it? Yes

At the time I wrote this review, I put the LYRA above the ARCHOS because of the dark screen on the ARCHOS which has only two brightness settings. Last night I found a seperate brightness control on the ARCHOS to use while recording. Sorry RCA the nod now goes to ARCHOS!!

This is the first... Read full review »

Pros Great video quality, 20GB storage.. that's a lot! It works.
Cons No scanning through your library while listening to a song
Recommended it? Yes

I actually won this product from my radio station when I called in to request a song. But I really love it. I transferred my whole media library off of my computer, and it plays fine on the lyra. I also love how I can record off of the TV and put video clips on my computer. Very cool.

Pros Very portable good value for money personal Digital Video Recorder/Player. UPDATE proves...
Cons Disk glitch flashes, below DVD resolution, UPDATE Still waiting for PAL fixes
Recommended it? Yes

Update after 4 months. Machine is still performing well. I do not understand how people get it to crash. My only problem has been recording on battery and the power running down, then it locks up. So you stick a pin in the reset hole, real technical!
One thing is bugging me - the lack of... Read full review »

Pros Fantastic Screen in bright light; includes all accessories; price
Cons Software not done yet; pixelation of dark areas; strange placement of buttons
Recommended it? Yes

I have had the opportunity to play with BOTH the Lyra RD2780 Jukebox AND the Archos AV320 and finally draw my own conclusions as to the best product in my opinion. The Lyra wins the competition, but it does really depend on how you plan to use the device.

The form factor of the Lyra is... Read full review »
