Easy to use!

Pros (see review)
Cons (see review)
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Ease of use with only minor, easily corrected problems, make this a very nice machine to use!
I bought this RCA VHS play/recorder - DVD player a couple of years ago, and have been very happy with it; it is my primary machine (I have had many over the years!). It is easy to use and has given me very little trouble (see "Cons" about the very rare eject problem). I hardly ever use the buttons on the machine, except to power on/off and/or eject tapes or discs; the remote does it all, albeit sometimes a bit quirky (again, see "Cons"). I would definitely buy this machine, again (why don't mfr's make remote-based machines with user-programmable "keys" so that you can own multiples of the same machine in the same room, but can set the infrared/radio frequency, so that one remote doesn't work both machines? Users are forced to buy two different mfr's machines if they want more than one in the same type in the same room! Granted, nobody does this, but, oh how I wish they did!).

PROS: Easy to use remote; programs are easy to change, in case a daily or weekly program changes days and/or times; no video or audio problems, though I wish there was a manual tracking to adjust for misalignment of older or other machine's tapes (no problems with pre-recorded tapes), but very few machines have this function, anymore, so it's not a big deal; I rarely use the DVD, but have had no problems with it. I read the manual a few times when I first got the machine, but haven't so much as glanced at it in months!

CONS: Programming is not random access; in other words, if you want to program for a given date, you have to continually push or hold the remote control "up" or "down" button to get to that date (it always starts from "today") rather than entering, say, "1-0" for October and "2-3" for the 23rd, etc. Although the remote runs through all the possibilities quickly, it's so fast that it is easy to miss the desired selection, so you have to carefully/slowly push the up or down button continually to scroll to get to it. Also, if you set a program to a future date, and then set the "repeat" to, say, "weekly", the date inexplicably changes to the following day; I haven't figured out why it does that (manual doesn't indicate any such thing), but, after being "burned" a couple of times on it, I'm very careful about it, now! After two years, it has become a little "cranky" when ejecting, sometimes ejecting the tape, then taking it back! On a hunch, I unplugged it for about 15 minutes, and the problem went away; my computer needs to be "rebooted", too, so no big deal, though it has happened twice to date, months apart.
