Excellent system for the money
Pros
Sound quality, small size, USB port, MP3 recording capable, useful owners manual.
Cons
Cheap plastic case not too durable. Only 2 speaker jacks. Power rating inflated.
Recommended it?
Yes
I bought this for a small office room and have been very satisfied with it. Sound quality is very good. The speakers sound nearly as good as a set of brand-name speakers I paid $200 for several years ago. The USB port works with flash drives up to 8GB and any MP3 player that is recognized as a Mass Storage Device. Ipod and Zune players will not work with the USB port, but can use the AUX audio jacks. The included 128mb MP3 player is nearly obsolete, but can be easily replaced with a newer RCA Lyra player.
Overall, a very versatile and affordable stereo. I can plug a 8gb flash drive into the USB port and shuffle songs for hours. The included CD player does a good job of reading CD-R disks which can often be unpredictable.
My only complaint would be regarding the power rating of 50 watts/channel RMS. Why does RCA rate power at 10% distortion. Nobody will listen to music at that high a distortion level. Better to rate the power at 35 or 40 watts at a lower distortion level.
