What you see isn't always what you get

Pros Good sound quality, decent user interface
Cons bulky size, very fragile, bad anti-skip protection
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Save your money and buy the Expanium. My friend owns it. He loves it and I love it.
I bought the RP2410 when I found it in an electronics store ad for about 140 dollars (about $100 off retail price). Judging by other's opinions on the product, I thought it would be perfect. If the cd player was 250 dollars on retail, I couldn't pass up on this offer. I wish I had.

The one major beef I have with this product is its failure to boast its anti-skip protection. The ad made by RCA claims that it has 100-second skip protection (at 128 kb encoding). No. The player might as well have had no skip protection whatsoever. Even on the flattest surface with no shock being given to it, it would still skip. And by skip, I don't mean one or two seconds, I mean it would skip about halfway through the song. I couldn't even enjoy listening to this product for a prolonged period of time because the songs would constantly skip ahead.

Another problem I had with this player was that, despite the claim RCA made that the RP2410 was CD-RW compatible, it would not read any of my RW's. To make sure the RW's were not just bad copies, I tested them on my friend's Expanium (my player of choice). Lo and behold, they worked.

A pretty interesting function that this player had was its 6-line LCD display and its user interface. The 6-line display allowed, while the cd was playing (but only in mp3 format), the track tags to be displayed. That way, you'd know the name of the song you were listening to. Plus, the user interface allowed me to scan through files like I was using My Computer or Windows Explorer. The cd player did allow navigation through folders and subfolders which was an asset to this player.

All in all, this product is decent for those who are just using the player for home or office use where the player isn't subjected to any kind of shock. I would not recommend it for portable use at all. The bottom line: save your money and don't buy the RP2410. Buy the Philips Expanium instead. You lose the function to read track tags, but you gain the skip-free protection of the Expanium.
