RCA RP2501 Personal CD Player

Pros Good bass and sound
Cons Wires tangle up easily, uses up batteries quickly, skips, scratches CDs.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  This personal CD player is horrible because it's inconvenient despite the good sound. Get a different one that would be more convenient, less likely to fall apart.
It was a dark and stormy night. Well...actually, it was more like a bright and sunny afternoon as I strolled around the electronics section of a store looking for my first CD player. Yes, I was way behind my classmates. Then I saw an RCA personal CD player for $29.99. "Oooh, RCA, a brand I've seen a lot around," I thought, placing the product in my cart.

The CD player had a 45-second anti-skip buffer and a CD remote (which also serves as an extender wire) that could clip onto things, like jeans pockets. It didn't have a car kit or FM stereo. The headphones were circular little clips called "e-clipz". It needed two AA batteries to work. It also had two levels of bass.

.
When I put some CDs in, I found that some of my CD-Rs did not work on it. Also, several of my CDs came out scratched up after being inside the CD player playing. Then, when I put in some slightly scratched CDs, the CD player had a really loud, whirring sound. Even the volume had been set to mute, my mom would have become suspicious if I had the CD player under my blankets at night because the loud whirring sound would have given it away. That sound was very annoying to me and my family.

The CD player also skips to easily, too, despite the anti-skip buffer. If I move it quickly to one side, it will skip or begin at the beginning of the CD again. I have to use a CD lens cleaner very often or the skipping would go insane.

The bass is very good, though. When the wires aren't being loose, I can hear the background instruments very clearly, a lot more clearly than with other CD player headphones I have ever borrowed from my friends. The e-clipz headphones also deliver a good sound. Sometimes I almost forget I'm using headphones because it is like the sound is all around me.

The e-clipz wires tend to tangle very easily. Almost every time when I get my CD player out, I have to spend a few minutes trying to untangle the e-clips headphone wires in order to hear the music. It was kind of embarrassing in public, too, with me fumbling with wires on my CD player.

The connection was weak, because if I moved a little, the sound would become very faint so I would have to push the wire in deeper even though it was as pretty much as deep as you can stuff it in.

This CD player burns batteries out real fast. Each round of batteries (it requires two AA) lasts about 1 hour at most, even less if you move around a bit, causing it to use the skip buffer. If you don't have a set of rechargeable batteries, you will have to run to the store for batteries very often in order to use the CD player.

It is average-sized for a CD player. It can fit into my backpack, but not into my purse, as most CD players don't.

A thing I like about it are the control buttons on the side of the CD player and the CD remote. If I'm stuffing the CD player into a backpack or something, I move the switch from "on" to "hold" so that if something bumps into the buttons, my CD player won't suddenly start playing music and waste battery power.

It doesn't have a control switch for the CD player opener so I've had a few times where I've found the CD player wide open inside my backpack where the CD that was inside it had fell out. The side opposite to the opening of the CD player has begun to split and loosen, showing some of the inside wires.

This personal CD player is not very convenient for travel, which destroys a big chunk of the reasons why many people want one. I'm hoping to get a new, different CD player soon.
