The Bottom Line:
If you are going to purchase this, make sure and get an extended warranty.
I received this as a Christmas gift one year. I was thrilled, and immediately plugged it in. Very easy to setup, with everything easily labeled. Popped a CD in the 5-disc changer, and hit play. I was blown away by the sound quality. I then read the manual a bit, and started fiddling with the Equalizer. After setting that up, and turning on Bass Boost, it sounded even better. The Bass notes are deep and resonant; at least above a volume level of 5. (There are 32 volume levels, e.g. 1-32) The mids are very clear, and the highs are crisp. The sound quality for such a low price (They've come down immensely, to around $100) is a great bargain.
The quality of the product on a whole, however, leaves much to be desired. The volume and track skip wheels have a lot of play, and just feel flimsy. The display gets scratched easily, and attracts dust and fingerprints like you wouldn't believe.
The real problem, however, started about 9 months after I got it. My brother accidentally bumped the CD tray when it was out, and it refused to go back in. We managed to push it back in, but that shook us a bit. Except now, the CD tray won't go in unless you push it to the left while it is being retracted. Then, a few months later, the whole thing just stopped working. Dead. I did the old technology standby, let it sit unplugged overnight. Fired it up in the morning, worked fine. Whatever; I won't question it. Later, however, it stopped in the middle of a song, the display bonked out, and smoke (yes, *smoke*!) started coming out of the main unit. I unplugged it in a hurry, and much to my dismay, it refused to do anything except turn on the power light from that point on.
I don't know if this is just my unit's nuances, or if the entire line is faulty. In any case, I would be wary, and if there is an extended warranty, purchase it.
