Nice complete system for the price

Pros Dolby Digital, Pro-logic II, nice design, sounds better than you'd think
Cons No DTS, Component out
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you live in an apartment and have intolerant neighbors you need this system. Otherwise it would make a perfect den or bedroom system.
Okay, let me give you a bit of background. I HAD a very nice yamaha digital surround system until my neighbors complained to the point where I couldn't even turn my system up where I could hear it. So I sold it all and bought this system. I haven't had a compaint since. The RCA RTDVD1 is a home theater in a box which includes a single disc DVD/CD/MP3 player housed in a 200 watt receiver in a very attractive and slim unit. It delivers 32 watts to each of five channels and 40 watts to the bass module. It comes with five small satellites than contain perhaps a 3" driver (RCA does not specify the driver used). The bass module (not a sub since it cannot produce the lowest octave of bass) houses a 6 1/2" woofer.
The RTDVD1 can decode Dolby Digital, Pro logic II Movie and Music, has about 5 DSP modes of varying usefulness, and a five mode EQ for stereo listening. It also contains an FM/AM tuner, a satellite A/V input, and a VCR recording loop. The satellite input has optical, coax, and analog audio in and compsoite and S-video input as well. The VCR loop is analog and composite only. The built in DVD player uses either composite or S-video outs and even has a optical out.
Up and running, the RTDVD1 delivered a surpisingly good sound and it plays louder than I would have thought in a 15 x 15 foot room. I had to take advantage of the treble control to compensate for the lack of tweeters in the satellite speakers. It is operational in all sound modes though the built in EQ works only in stereo. The bass module did pretty well and was able to hit low notes I didn'
t expect it to hit though 30 to 20 Hz bass extension was not possible of course but it still does the job quite well. The DVD player works as well as I've experienced from stand alone players that costs more than this whole system. The only thing missing was component out, but the S-video connection works just fine.
I hate the fact how I had to reduce my home theater to this system because of intolerant neighbors whom do not want to hear anything at all. But, this is a nice system that will do until I can move my family to a house instead of this ridiculous apartment living.
