Great VCR, but loaded with big problems!!!

Pros Features (Movie/Commercial Advance/Slow Motion) are great; Recording/Picture quality are excellent!
Cons Microprocessor/Power Supply problems turn the VCR's power off intermittently.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  If you want to roll the dice to see if you get one without problems it's a great VCR. I'm 2 for 2 and I've learned my lesson.
I purchased 2 of these VCRs for home use for the features: Commercial/Movie Advance, 4-Head Hi-Fi, VCR+ Gold. I was very happy with all its features and it worked great for about 4 days until I came home one night and found it completely turned off and I had missed taping my favorite shows. Thinking I may have had a power outage, I unplugged it and replugged it and all was fine again... for about a week until it did the exact thing again! After doing some research with my local RCA Authorized Service Centers, it seems this VCR has lots of intermittant microprocessor/power supply problems that turn the VCR off until it you unplug it and then plug it in again. Anyway, both of the VCRs I purchased had the same exact problems, so I'm extremely unhappy. I wrote to RCA/Thompson's Review Board to try to recoup some $$$, but they told me to get lost since the RCA service center couldn't replicate the problem when they had it for two weeks. I ended up buying a Panasonic PV-V4621 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR, but this had so many problems there is not enought space here to list them all. Let me just say, Panasonic VCR quality has taken a nose dive over the last 5 years. Don't buy one! At this point, I think I'm going to try one of the GoVideo Dual-Deck VCRs with the Commercial/Movie Advance features. However, after my experience with RCA and Panasonic's VCRs, I'm not too optimistic. Don't get me wrong, I love the RCA VR708HF Hi-Fi VCR's features and recording/playback quality... it's great! But the problems it has makes it a major reliability headache at best. Hey RCA, put some good parts in these VCR's and you could charge $150 for these babys no problem!!! John.
