The Bottom Line:
So many uses, and works so well. If you have the room for it, there is not much competition.
When my wife was about to teach a summer class in Hawaiian dancing, I ordered the JVC box.
At the time, we did not know for sure she what size class she would have, or the size of the room.
We had looked at several different boomboxes at Target, and other department stores, and they seemed fine for a small room, and a small class, but they were very deficient in bass, and easily drowned out by other sounds.
I read some reviews here and elsewhere, and then did some researching on price. I was able to pick this up online for $200, and 15 dollars for shipping. (not bad considering the weight).
Once it arrived, I began to worry it was too heavy, and way more than what she needed. We played the radio a bit at first, and it worked well. Very good reception on AM and FM.
When we started throwing in CDs, we sat there for a good hour just playing all kinds of music, and experimenting with all the settings. She was beaming ear to ear, "I love it, honey, but damn, I think I will have to put wheels on it and ride it to class!"
As it turned out, she held her class in a small auditorium, and had 20 students. I went on the last class when the summer school staff was there taking pictures, as the young girls auditioned their best moves.
Music was never a problem. Everyone in the room was swaying or bobbing their heads to the rhythm.
It simply filled that room with clear sound, and nice impressive bass.
You can boost the bass, and use different equalizer settings for different music. But just setting everything to a more normal setting, it sounds just fine as well.
The CD player as well as the tape player, work well also.
This makes a great party box, or set it up in on your patio, turn it down a bit, and sip some drinks while the sun drops below the horizon.
