Still kicking
Pros
Great sound, straight to the point operation & good remote.
Cons
Heavy, batteri sucking, all plastick very limited weather proof.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Recommended as a second system, can be hooked up to your tv...or even guitar
My first experience with a kaboom box from JVC goes back to around 90'. Back then it was really cool to have a portable deck with a real sub. The deck had lots of thick rubber at the ends as well as a particular quality feel. You could leave in light rain, bang it or even drop it from a foot - still playing - almost indestructable.
Now some 15 years later I needed one for the outside, I decided on the newest offspring in a long line of kaboom boxes. The build quality still seems above average but is nowhere what it used to be. You will find no rubber sleeves and for gods sake dont drop it or bang it as you walk this heavy piece through a door - The plastic..or the door could crack.
The sound however rules. Deep and I mean deep nice firm bass comes out of it. Middletones are distinct and clear and tweeter very crisp. Middletones could probably benefit from a slightly larger diameter on the units - but stil thumps up. Woofers can be adjustet precisely by a large dial to match remaining tone spectre. Whats really nice too is the no BS approach. Arent we tired of ghettoblasters where more money has been spend on flashy porn lights instead of a solid powersupply. All you will find on the JVC is a small display and just the right amount of buttons.
It can play very loud and maintain controlled soundstage. Dont count on using this unit with batteries for very long, plan on a good extention cord and it will easily fill a decent sized garden whith full rich sound.
