The Bottom Line:
I would highly recommend this receiver. The YPAO Feature is a nice feature for people who are HiFi challenged
How do you know if you have a Premium Receiver? If it makes your cheap speakers sound good. I bought this receiver on the web for $670.00 (Note: Yamaha will not accept your warranty unless you buy your unit from an Authorized Yamaha Dealer). Average cost from an Authorized Dealer about $950.00. Find yourself a vendor with good reputation if you decide to get the $300.00 discount which what I did. This receiver is as advertised. Yamaha did a good job in engineering it. For people who are HiFidelity challenged, the receiver can equalize itself by using the YPAO (Yamaha Professional Room Acoustic Optimizer). Plug the microphone, click the auto setup then you are ready to go. I used in 7 in wall speakers for my home theater that I purchased from http://www.hometheaterdirect.com. These are generic but well built speakers, and with the RX-V2500 my surround sound sounds like I spent a fortune on it.
I don't have much technical jargons I can offer. You could visit the Yamaha website for more info. But from a layman's perspective I would have to say that the RX-V2500 is superb, in my opinion better than a comparable SONY ES line. And with the YPAO, it's like having a pro setup your system.
