The Bottom Line:
It's not only the best performing MP3 deck available, but the best value too. Get one.
I've looked at and listened every MP3 player deck I've come across, and the RFX9000 is the best one yet.
First off, it's less expensive than most MP3-enabled decks, especially those in it's class. Sony and Panasonic offer inexpensive MP3 decks, but they in no way compare to Rockford Fosgate's RFX9000. Sony and Panasonic's decks pale in comparison, from build quality to sound quality. The RFX9000 has them beat in every aspect.
As for decks in the same class as the RFX9000, the KD-SH707 and KD-SH909, by JVC, are the only ones that come close to Rockford's entry level receiver. While they have many similar qualities to the RFX9000, especially appearance and sound quality, they lack the one feature that sets the RFX900 apart from the rest.
Rockford Fosgate implemented a unique feature when they designed this deck, exclusive to MP3 playback, where upon entering MP3 it notes the location of each track, so that it can jump immediately to that point on the CD, instead of scanning for the next track every time you push the forward button. It takes 10-15 seconds for each CD to load into memory, as it scans every track on the CD, but then track change times are less than a normal CD. On any other MP3 deck, it can take 3-5 seconds between each track while it looks for the next file, whereas the RFX9000 takes only 1-2 seconds at most.
Of course, you'd expect the price to correspond with all the quality and features. But that's where Rockford Fosgate really beats the competition. The only other decks on the market that match up to the RFX9000 are the JVC KD-SH line, and they're $40-50 more, depending on where you go. You can find the RFX9000 for $185 or less online, the JVCs are at least $225. Rockford Fosgate has really succeeded with this deck, beating the competition with features, quality and price, making this the best MP3 deck on the market, and the best value too.
