Rockford Fosgate 9210 - 2/5

Pros Great sound when working, remote, stylish
Cons MP3 CDs and burned audio CDs always skip. Sketchy reception in areas
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  I wouldn't recommend this deck to anyone who wants to play burned CDs in their car. If you listen to the radio or store bought CDs, it's a great deck.
I bought this deck 1 year ago tomorrow, and for most of that time, I've been regretting it. I was looking for a deck between $200-$250 with MP3 cd playback capability, and that looked nice to replace the factory stereo in my 89 Chevy Pickup, to get from me from home to school and work.

The deck cost me $230 at Audio King, and one of the commissioned sales people told me horror stories of other decks I was looking at, and recommended this Rockford to me. He's the only person that came out ahead. This deck consistently skips on burned CDs, which is one of the main features I bought it for (MP3 cd playback). I've tried multiple computers, programs, burners, settings, speeds, media, everything. The long and short of it is that this deck cannot play burned CDs (audio or mp3). After having Audio King tell me a few months after I bought it that it would take 3 weeks to get my deck back to me from service, should I send it in, I decided it wasn't worth it.

To go more in depth, when the deck has a cd in it (burned) it plays the music with great quality, but will just skip roughly every 3-10 seconds, which is VERY annoying. The problem. Song, length of CD, type of media, computer, burning software, all have no impact on the skipping. One thing that I've noticed may have a corellation is the cold. I live in Minnesota, so I know both warm and cold temps and have run the deck in both. It skips more severely (around 3-5 seconds between skips) in cold, and maybe 5-10 between skips in warm weather.

When the deck is on the radio, or playing a retail music CD, the sound is great, I have it hooked up to a Rockford 600 amp and 10" Punch HE sub behind my seat in my Pickup cab. But seeing how there is only 1 good radio station in my area, and I'm not into buying CDs, I rely on a deck that can play burned CDs. I'm disappointed to say this deck fails my quality standards.
