Great product but could be better
Pros
Frees up your music better than the rest
Cons
Could be a bit more polished in navigation
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Can't beat it at the price.
Like most people, i got this product to free up all of the music I had on my PC and to stream it through to my stereo.
The good points:
- it looks nice and stylish (if that's a requisite.
- its relatively easy to setup and connect to your WEP/WPA network. I've had to do this twice now and no problems either time.
- at last my music is free to be played through my stereo.
The not so good:
- navigation is a bit of a pain. Because the display is small-ish, and you're using the keypad to program it, it's a bit easy to press the wrong key sometimes (skip track vs. right arrow for example) and screw everything up.
- working with a NAS over an 802.11b network introduces a bit of a wait retrieving your library. It was quick when the library was on my PC, no noticeable delays, but with the NAS (HP Media Vault) there's a fairly sizeable delay whilst it initially builds your library of artists, albums etc. It's almost certainly the NAS, but something to put in the back of your head. No issues when playing songs though, it buffers it all ahead of time.
The bad:
- Roku's support. Mine developed a power fault and I had to return it. No real problem with that, but despite frequent emails/requests I had no idea what the status was until the unit appeared back on my doorstep about 12 days later.
