The Bottom Line:
My experience was very bad, MP3 playback is a gimmick. CD playback is fine.
I purchased the NEO Changer from Best Buy, and had it installed by Best Buy in my 2001 Jetta. I had read the other opinion and was encouraged that this might be the right solution for me. My car has the monsoon sound system so a CD changer with MP3 player capability sounded just the ticket.
The NEO changer plays CDs fine. It does not however play MP3s very well at all. Sometimes the changer can recognize the MP3s CD-R/RW sometimes it can't. More often than not it can't. Is a pretty big pain trying to figure out what makes the system recognize the media, but it just seems arbitrary. I have tried different brands of CD-R/RWs, different burning programs etc, holding my left finger out the window and rubbing my head at the same time. I knew I would take a hit on some of the cooler features by keeping my factory monsoon deck, but even with that consideration I'd have to say that if you are looking for MP3 action, this thing plain sucks.
I hope I can resolve the issues with SSI or with Best Buy, but I'm feeling like the MP3 feature was a gimmick to jack up the price on a marginal CD player. I'm pretty bummed about the whole system.
