Well, it's a phone.
Pros
Color screen, ok service.
Cons
Too expensive for what it is (i710 phone, and service).
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Do not purchase a Nextel phone and service contract if you are buying one unit for personal reasons.
I was recently in the market for a phone, and a bit hasty in finding one. In my area I hear the best coverage comes from Nextel and Verizon, and since I chose the provider with the best track record in customer service, I went with Nextel. I purchased the i710 about a week ago, and I have begun to get slightly fustrated with the price vs. feature factor. For about 47.99 I got the basic plan with 500 mins. and unlimited nights, weekends, and direct connects. I found it to be slightly expensive to have to pay extra for caller ID and voice mail, but as I said I was in a rush to get a phone.
The other night I found myself in need to use my phone as an alarm clock, but I could not find the application on the phone to do this. The next day I went to the Nextel website and found that this feature costs $5.00. This may not seem that expensive, but many other mobile services provide this for free on their phones, including the caller ID, voice mail, and the actual hardware.
The hardware package came with an ac charger, period. I've since ordered an "oem" protective case and a car charger on ebay for about $15 each (these "accessories" run between $30 and $35 from the Nextel website or a dealer).
So far the service has been pretty good, with minimal static and almost always 3 service bars. I have yet to travel with it.
I do not recommend this phone, or selecting Nextel mobile service, if you are purchasing only one phone. Nextel service is best suited for business clients who need multiple units or those who know many people with nextel phones who use the direct connect feature often.
