The Bottom Line:
If you could care less about having a smart phone but want a little bit more then check this phone out.
That picture is not the right phone! I had a five year old LG VX6100 with Verizon that started falling apart so it was time for a new phone. When it comes to cell phones I've found simple to be best. I've tried app stores and touch screens but the novelty wears off on me. Why pay monthly for a higher data plan for access to things I don't need? My Maslow basic needs when it comes to a cell phone are:
1. Ability to make and receive calls clearly
2. Text messaging
3. Picture and video capabilities
4. Capable web browser
5. Light, portable, and sturdy
This phone has met every criteria and more. Plus at $24.99 with a two year contract and $9.99 a month for the data plan it's not a bad deal.
Ability to make and receive calls clearly
The dual flip ability is great. I can flip up for phone calls and easily hit speaker or go to camera mode. There's a bluetooth feature but I haven't used it. Of course quality and clarity depends on the Verizon coverage in your area.
Text messaging
If I want to text I flip vertical and thanks to the e-ink technology I have a QWERTY style keyboard and can quickly shift between letters, numbers, and symbols. Far faster for me than using a touch screen or old phone style when using my thumbs. My fingers aren't even close to chubby or large but on a touch screen there's a lot of backspacing.
Picture and video capabilities
The picture quality is decent. 2.0 Megapixel and up to 1600x1200 resolution. It gets resized if you want to picture message. There's also the panorama feature that's lower resolution but lets you take shots of things like murals that would require more than one shot or stepping far back. It has a nightshot and timer feature as well. The video is poor as you'd expect given the specifications. Video will be grainy and small.
Capable web browser
I sometimes need to access sites on the go or check sports scores and the browser with the vertical flip is far better than I expected. Verizon's mobile web itself is sluggish though except for off peak hours. $9.99 a month for 25mb data and mobile e-mail but invaluable when you're in a store and want to check Amazon or some other site to compare prices or research a product.
Light, portable, and sturdy
It's actually a little thinner and lighter than my old phone but slightly longer. It's not so thin it feels flimsy or so thick it's clumsy. Fits very comfortably into my pocket and I've dropped it a couple times already so it seems sturdy enough for normal use. I'm kind of clumsy when it comes to phones having once dropped my old phone watching it bounce and then fly off the second story of my apartment building. I'm not ready to give it that sort of testing yet.
Other features
Aside from an alarm, calendar, stop watch, notepad, and other tools there also the ability to use micro SDHC cards up to 16GB to expand storage, transfer files, or mp3's since it doubles as an mp3 player. It allows for custom mp3 ring tones up to 30 seconds and you can e-mail them to your phone, save, and set it.
You can also get applications and games if you want. There's the VZ Navigator which is a GPS but costs a monthly fee I believe as well as VCast. There's visual voice mail and some other things I have never explored. The battery life has been good so far.
It meets my basic requirements since I'm not tethered to my phone all day and try to spend as little time on it as possible. If you're a basic user or just looking for simplicity then check out this phone.
