Samsung Glyde- A Mind of Its Own!
Pros
virtual rubik's cube, shortcuts, v cast, rhapsody, verizon
Cons
horrible touch screen, bad camera and video, out of date, slow, un-organized texting
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
This is a good phone for features but other than that this phone is not very good. Its is slow and the camera and video have horrible quality.
When i bought the Samsung Glyde I was so excited to get a phone that instead of really comparing phones to see which was best I saw the Glyde a keyboard so i bought it. A verizon wireless worker even suggested I find a different phone but i didn't listen. That was a big mistake.
Overview-
The Glyde has a pretty nice feel, very small, not too heavy, but it is pretty thick.
My Experience-
I had the first generation and like many have said this was not a good phone to have. For the first few months it worked pretty nicely. Not too many features but enough to be enjoyable Although the main problem is that the touch screen was completely off. The sensitivity was horrible and there was no way to calibrate the screen. It finalygot so bad that I took I took it to Verizon and they gave me the newest version of the Glyde. There was not too much different except that the new one was thicker and there was a way to calibrate the screen now! Well sadly the calibration did not really work and the touch screen was not really any better. Finally i went and got a new phone because i couldn't stand it anymore.
Pricing-
The phone itself was about $80 but would be much cheaper now probably since it is so out dated. As for plans, this phone works on pretty much any plan so the price per month is different for every person.
Display-
Surprisingly the Glyde's screen isnt too bad as far as graphics go. Of course they are nothing like the graphics of major smart phones but for a normal texting phone they weren't too bad.
Keyboard & Messaging-
The keyboard is nicely space and very easy to use. It takes no time to get used to and makes speed texting really easy. The text messaging on this phone isn't bad but reading conversations is difficult due to the fact that the messages are not stored in threads and sorted by contact. They are stored in a list and sorted into "Inbox", "Sent", and "Drafts". Another problem with the messaging is if you receive a text as you are sending one the phone will freeze up and shut down. This seems to happen a lot so it is very irritating. There is also the option to change the font or color of your text in messages which i find very cool.
Sound Quality-
The sound quality wasn't too bad. I could always understand people i talked to but the microphone isn't very good because it changes the pitch of your voice and i would often be told that my voice was not very clear.
Camera & Video-
There is a 2mp camera and the flash is pretty bright. The pictureswere usually not clear though unless you were very close to whatever you were taking a picture of. The video pretty bad. It was always blurry and you could never tell what was going on. The one good thing about the camera and video is the zoom. You can use the volume buttons or the on screen zooming.
Games and Apps-
The Glyde uses the standard Verizon market for downloading apps and games. There are some good games such as: Sims, Guitar Hero, Mafia Wars, and many more. The apps are more for business and parental control there is the Locate Me app that sends the parent the location of their child. There are organizers and other apps like that.
V Cast Products-
V Cast products are like VZ Navigator which gives you directions to a place or can show you your location on a map. Other V Cast products are V Cast Video, V Cast Song ID, and probably the most popular the V Cast Music Store. Just like Apple's iTunes for iPhones, you can purchase music on the go. It also comes with a free V Cast Rhapsody download for your computer where you can listen or buy songs. Rhapsody usually costs monthly so this is a great deal to get for free.
Web Browsing-
The web browsing for the Glyde is a bit slow but nothing that's too bad. Google & Yahoo images don't really work but other than that its fine on the web.
Shortcuts-
The phone has a built in home button and also has an on screen menu button along with a dial pad, and contact button (When you pull out the keyboard a messaging option appears). At the bottom is a mini notification bar with shortcuts to messaging, calendar, voice mail, missed calls and others. On the side is a pull out shortcut tab where you can put a link to any game, contact, web page or app.
Touch Screen-
The touch screen is absolutely HORRIBLE! It is not accurate at all, at first there was no way to calibrate it, and the sensitivity was really bad.
In the End-
I think the Glyde has some good features, very easy to get used to but the main problem is the touch screen.
