is this why you have to purchase the extended warranty??

Pros worked for 22 months, dvds & HD are terrific
Cons digital cable channels not as clear; died less than two years old, no extended warranty!
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Originally loved this TV, but very disappointed in it dying less than two years after purchase. Too expensive to assume you will be replacing it every 22 months.
We purchased our Samsung HCM4215W in October 2002, and in August 2004 it's convergence also went!! I have contacted both Samsung and Best Buy by email, with both of their standard replies being "one year warranty expired". Does this mean you are supposed to spend $1400 on a TV and expect it to die in the 13th month? Ours is less than 2 years old, and to make it more ironic, eight days before it crapped out, I wrote the final check to Best Buy, paying off the balance. Of course, we had to buy the TV stand, DVD player, and with tax & delivery, the whole thing was near $2000 - I feel like we have been taken advantage of. I want to pursue this with Samsung, but reading through the other reviews leads me to believe it will get me nowhere - Samsung does not seem to stand behind their products, and using the Best Buy credit card does not offer any additional protection. The repair was quoted as $525, which we haven't had done yet, trying to wait to see if Samsung will help us out. Now I am wondering if this TV is worth repairing, it sounds like it is likely to break again!
