The Bottom Line:
A defective product. Avoid at all costs.
I've had this model for 6 years. It has died three times in those six years. Same symptoms as everyone else, including the pop and burning smell which is not normal (in case anyone has been told otherwise by Samsung). I have spent over 50 hours on the phone in the last 3 years. I had a 5 year warranty that I had paid a lot of money for that covered the 1st 2 repairs. In May of 2006 (before the warranty expired), I informed them that the model was defective. They basically told me to go to hell (indirectly, of course). No one is going to get anything accomplished by going through Samsung. Here's what you need to do: File a report with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (just Google the name and it's the first entry that comes up). If the CPSC receives enough complaints on this model, there will be a recall and/or a class action lawsuit filed against Samsung, who has already been sued for knowingly making a defective Blu-Ray player (just Google Samsung Blu-Ray lawsuit). Even if you don't have this model anymore, I urge anyone who did to file a report with the CPSC. Samsung needs to learn that they cannot take blatant advantage of their customers. Just to let everyone know, Samsung had someone take my tv three weeks ago (early Nov. 2008) to supposedly repair it, then told me they were going to exchange it, then told me I had to PAY for part of the exchange (???), and now refuse to send me an exchange or repair the tv. They have told the people who took it not to return it to me either. The local police department won't do anything, claiming that it doesn't fall under the guidelines of theft. Again, I urge you to file a report with the CPSC.
