Color Wheel Flaws - After 18 Months - $410 Fix
After 16 months of generally happy use, my Samsung 61" DLP (purchased in April of 2004) started making a high frequency noise. This turns out to be what is known as a color wheel. Run don't walk away from this television!
The good news is that this TV had (emphasis on the had) a great picture, excellent sound, was great for for gaming (xbox and WII), and dynamite movie display.
However, after less than two years, the motherboard on this t.v. has failed. I'd put it down to bad luck if I hadn't just paid...

Fantastic Television
My 55" Mitsu LCD finally died after 9 years and we researched high and low as to what to replace it with. We have an extremely large 'bedroom suite' (at least 20' from the wall with the TV to the head of the bed) so we needed to get a large set.

Color Wheel Shatters 3 weeks after warranty expires
I purchased a Samsung HL-R6167W 61" DLP HDTV Sept. 3, 2005, from SEARS, and a 3-yr. warranty for $500. Exactly 3 weeks after the warranty expired, Sept. 24, 2008, the color wheel shattered.
