This TV is awesome!

Cons optimum viewing angle is a little smaller than I expected
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is the best picture for the size and price. Can't be beat on color and picture clarity.
We did a lot of comparison shopping before deciding on the Samsung HL-T5087S. We compared the pros and cons of LCD, plasma, and DLP. We were concerned with the burn in problem with plasma and the motion blur with LCD. The DLP technology in this TV is 1080p, with is the highest resolution available delivering a full 1920 x 1080 resolution for the clearest picture. I know from my computer monitor how resolution can affect the picture quality, so this really made sense to me. I have read that broadcasters are not yet broadcasting in full 1080p, but they will be soon and I don't want to have a TV that is obsolete before I can even finish reading the owner's manual.

Even though this TV is not a true flat panel TV, it is only 13" deep, so it is very slim compared to our old TV. And, it only weighs 61 lbs. so it is easy to move if you need to.

We finally decided on this DLP that has the new LED light source. With the older DLP TVs the bulb had to be replaced every 2-3 years, but the LED light eliminates this completely. It should last as long as the TV. Also, with the LED light, there is no color wheel that turns and so there is no noise associated with that. For the size and picture quality, this Samsung was a fantastic bargain. This particular model is 1080p capable and 3D ready.

The only complaint I have is that it has a narrower viewing angle (+/-70% horizontal and +/-30% vertical) than the other two types of high definition big screen TVs. It does not have PIP, which my husband likes, but the model HL-T5089S does have it - we didn't think it was worth an additional $700.00.

There are three factory settings for color but you can also do your own custom settings. The colors are very natural looking and true, and the menus are easy to navigate and set things up plus there are one-touch buttons on the remote to switch the surround sound on or off, adjust the picture size, and many others.

The TV has all the connections on the side, which makes it easy to hookup. It has 3 HDMI, 2 component, 2 S video, and PC hookups. It has NTSC / ATSC / Clear QAM tuners.

We do not have this TV hooked up to any surround sound setup, but the internal speakers are fine. There is a setting to simulate surround sound, and it works great.

Also, we got a VERY good deal from the Internet store we bought it from. The final price ended up being $1498 and we got a free Samsung DVD-R 1080p upconverting player. We couldn't be happier.
