Awesome Picture and Great Technology (with a Few Quirks.)

Pros Best picture quality for brightness and detail.
Cons Some use interface issues.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Overall best picture quality in a relatively slim and light cabinet.
I purchased this unit in Nov. 2002. The picture quality was very good especially DVD's and when watching HDTV programming. I Then called in an video specialist to calibrate the sets brightens, contrast, gamma, color, etc. and the picture has been stunning ever since! There is no set that delivers a bright, sharper picture, at any price, than the Samsung DLP set. The picture looks good even in a moderately bright sunny room. The clarity, sharpness and ultra-fine detail leaves people gasping(no kidding!).

Things I love:
1. Picture quality especially HDTV and good DVD's
2. There is no burn-in (unlike those $5000 and up plasmas)
You can watch 4:3 programming or hook up a video game without having to worry about burning in the screen and ruining your set! Also the picture quality hardly degrades over time.

3. The cabinet is so narrow and light I put the set on a built-in bookshelf and it looks great.
4. It has a DVI-HDCP input connector (never buy an HDTV with this since in the future HDTV tuners will require sets to have this type of input and it give the absolute highest quality picture possible)

The downside:
There are some user interface issue such as having the hit 2-3 buttons on the remote to change from widescreen to normal aspect ration when switching from different sources.
The inputs can't be labeled and you can't switch directly to any input.
There is some pincushion in 4:3 mode( but in 16:9 mode the geometry is perfect.
The blacks aren't as deep, rich and 3-d looking as a direct view CRT but it beats every other type of set except those.
The set also requires a $250 light source to be replaced every 3-7 years, depending on how much TV watching you do.

The newer HLNxxx fixes some of these user interface issues.
