Great picture.......and that's what matters most.
Pros
The picture is everything one can hope for and that's what it's all about.
Cons
No front connections, no labeling for on-screen connections. Untrained tech support.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
It's an awesome vehicle for watching a good quality signal. No doubt the price will come down but we're watching a great picture today.
After reading some of the earlier reviews here and being prepared for a mediocre remote, I decided that this is the one I was waiting for after not being able to decide on a wide screen TV for the last few years. I'm glad I waited.
The picture, with my satellite signal, is indeed awesome. I'm now ready for the TV stations to catch up and send down the ultimate signal that this set is yearning for.
OK, 'don't want to repeat everything that's been said before so here is some additional findings:
The so-called "front connections" are not really in the front; instead they're in the back of the picture frame. This means that when you put the set across a corner in your room, you can't get at them. Even worse, if you put the set into an entertainment centre, with just the right opening provided for the TV, you definitely can't get at them.
Mr. SAMSUNG what were you thinking??
I overcame the problem by permanently having cables dangling forward from this connection, which of course I could just as easily do with the other rear connections.
The mediocre remote was immediately replaced with the awesome KAMELEON remote which is now custom programmed to handle all of the functions of the original plus all functions of all of my other remotes (now retired to the remote storage drawer).
I wish there was a better way to switch between connections. As it is, one has to go to the connection menu and choose between the many options. Which one is the VCR or the DVD, PC etc? It would be nice if these options could be custom labelled.
Watching this set for a while proved hard on my eyes. Itching and watering became a concern after a couple of hours. The manual says to move 4 to 5 times the width of the screen away from the set. That would make it 16 feet. I had to move back more than 18feet to find some needed relieve, but not everyone in the family has that problem.
The various picture display pre-sets are not to my liking and thus I played around with the custom setting and got exactly what I wanted. The problem is that the picture changes between channels and programs and so I wish there were more than one custom setting available.
The picture quality for my PC connection, via an S-VHS cable, is not the best. The optimizing menu for PC is greyed-out when connecting in this manner. Tech support doesn't know why.
Tech support is readily available but not very knowledgeable when it comes to this set.
Oh, one more thing: I didn't like the naked aluminum look and had a custom oak frame made which is stuck with double sided tape to the face of the 1 1/4" frame around the picture. Tastes vary but the oak frame has gotten as many approving comments from friends as has the picture.
