Yes
The Bottom Line:
Outperforms all others in its class with none of the negatives of the Plasma models.
I purchased my Samsung a few weeks ago and had a difficult time comparing it to the Sony Wega and the Philips LCOS. However, I had the opportunity to compare the units side by side and it was no question. The other two are great TV's but side by side they could not stand up.
The Sony, has the new anti-glare screen which actually adds glare in darker rooms with back lighting. The old screen is much better for this issue. The picture is extremely clear but lacks some of the brightness that exists in the Samsung.
The Philips on the other hand while it had great brightness and color, had a tendency to show pixel trail on fast moving action scenes which seemed to be a little distracting to my eye.
Thus, I settled on the Samsung and any concerns I had were immediately quelled once I set the unit up and turned it on. What an amazing picture, even with Direct TV (non HDTV) the clarity is very good. With a progressive scan DVD, the picture is unbelievable, it seems like you are actually at the theater.
I heard, not sure if it is true, that Sony is now planning on releasing a DLP television in the near future. What a great system, no burn in issue, and all you have to do every 8,000 to 10,000 hours is replace one bulb.
I do have to say that straight out of the box my TV did have too much green (which I understand to be an issue with some sets), but this was easily correct by a service technician that came out and tweaked the set under the manufacture warranty.
I can not say enough great things about this set and cannot wait to sit down and watch the Super Bowl this year on my new screen.
I will admit that at $3999 this is not a set for everybody, but it is less than half the price of comparable Plasma TV's with none of the useful life or burn in issues. To me it is well worth every penny and is a great centerpiece to the Entertainment System.
