Love it and hate it

Pros Durable, cheap, features
Cons Low Battery Life, web, camera and video quality
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Good phone but don't think it's an iPhone killer.
I have a love and hate relationship with my Samsung Instinct. Before purchasing my Instinct, I was never a cell phone guru. I've always owned simple cell phones that you just make calls and text. But recently, I wanted to "up" my game in the mobile phone world. I thought owning a phone like the Instinct will change my appreciation of the capabilities that a cell phone could have, which in part is true.

The weight and size of the Instinct is a little heavy and bulky, but honestly that's the way I like my phones. I'm not a big fan of thin and light phones because I want to ensure myself that I can firmly grab and hold onto my phone instead of maneuvering it with my fingertips. Also, the shell color is nice... metallic black (if there's such a word).

The Instinct could do everything. Despite the obvious (calls, text, address book), it has internet capability, efficient email feature, music and video support, camera, favorites, GPS Navigation, ample web apps, bluetooth, and voice command. It has a touchscreen with decent user interface and simple navigation.

I'm not heavy on uploading bunch of music, storing photos and other data so the 2gb memory it comes with is sufficient for me. But I can see why owners will not appreciate the memory size (expandable up to 8gb) for those who are into that stuff.

However, the key issue I have with the Instinct is the web browser. Other than the design, it is rather slow and the available features just don't do it for me. I've found out that the phone itself will sometimes lag going from screen to screen. Moreover, my pet peeve is poor battery life... in which the Instinct clearly has. I think the battery life is poorer than it is stated by Samsung. If you are a heavy web user... you may need to carry a charger at all times, although I think Samsung was considerate enough to add another battery pack as part of the package when you receive the phone. The camera and video quality could be better too.

One thing I wanted to note was that the durability is pretty darn good. I think this goes with the reputation of Samsung as a brand. I'm a person who is rather careless with phones (I've accidentally sat on and dropped it numerous times) and the quality of the phone itself is very respectable.

I've always carried Sprint as my carrier so I did not bother exploring other options such as the iPhone thus I cannot really compare them two. With that said, overall the Samsung Instinct is a good phone especially for the price. However, if you are a cell phone guru who is always owning top-of-the-line phones this is not the phone for you. The pros outweighs the cons but the cons can be really annoying. If you are like me and just starting to get into the "do-it-all" mobile phones then getting the Samsung Instinct is definitely a good start.
