The Bottom Line:
Samsung should have kept this one to themselves.
I remember the day that I first got this phone. I liked it, but I still missed my Palm Centro. The main reason I got this phone was the ad campaign, plain and simple, I'm not even gonna lie. The other reason I got the phone is because my palm centro DID NOT have a GPS built in!!! If it did, I would STILL to this day have my Palm Centro. I enjoyed the GPS feature and the fact that the phone came with TWO batteries AND an additional charger!
The first negative thing I started to notice about it was that the signal was WEAK! In places where I'd have 2-3 bars with my centro I'd have nothing or be roaming (if that) with the instinct. Very low quality signal, in my apartment I have to sit or stand next to a door or window to have a conversation without my call being dropped.
It was about 2 months into it that the phone started to really work my nerves.
First, the GPS started to act up. I'd be travelling down a road trying to find my destination, then it would tell me to make a u-turn, so I make the u-turn, then it tells me to travel .1 mile, then after I do that, it says that it's updating the route, then it tells me to make ANOTHER u-turn. It had me going in circles, until I decided to say "hey, let me just look for it the old fashioned way!" and instead of making that first u-turn, I should have kept down the street about a mile and a half.
Next, the photo viewer began to misbehave. When I'd press on the phone to view the photos I'd taken, it would freeze up. It began to take 3 minutes to bring up thumbnails of my pictures. This is unacceptable!
Then I noticed the camera isn't very good. I'll take a picture of someone, after I click, I'll see the image that I just snapped frozen, then when I finally get to look at the pictures (which takes 3 minutes!) it's not that same image, it's what happened seconds AFTER the image, so the delay in the camera really stinks!
As if that wasn't enough, I'd began to experience problems with the music player. It would say "scanning SD card" and would literally go thru ten minutes of that (not being able to use the phone for anything else other than a paper weight) before it just quit trying and went back to the main menu. Still no music.
I tried to watch sprint TV, the few channels that were FREE had very grainy video. It wasn't worth it, plus it kept freezing.
I downloaded the pandora app, this was my favorite pasttime for a minute until I got a call while I was listening to music. The music stopped, my ringtone played, but I COULD NOT answer the phone! The album cover was still on the touch screen and nothing I pressed changed that. So now I missed a call and I don't even know who called me. This is unacceptable! I can't even multi-task with pandora!
So I'm using the default browser, I'm on facebook, and while I'm there, I'll click on someones status, and when the page loads up perfectly, using word wrap and keeping the font size a great size so that I can actually READ IT, but then it zooms waaaaaaay out to the point where I can't read it, so then I have to ZOOM IN. Then when I click on another link on facebook, it zooms out YET AGAIN! This became tiresome so I downloaded opera. Unfortunately with opera it doesn't save your progress if you exit the browser, but that's an app problem, nothing that came with the phone so I'll move away from that.
The speakerphone is terrible! I'll scream at times and no one will hear me. I stopped using it altogether.
The touch screen responds when it wants to, and freezes quite frequently. At times I've been reading a text and random letters would be missing from the text each time I read it.
setting up bluetooth is quite a cumbersome process. The phone at times wont' even detect a bluetooth earpiece INCHES away from it in pairing mode!
Then a couple more months into it, the touch screen malfunctioned. I'd touch the messaging icon, and it would go to the calculator, so I pressed the calculator and it would go to the clock, so I pressed the "main" title above the messaging icon figuring it was just off a little, it went to e-mail! Then people began to call me and I couldn't answer AT ALL! I had to take the phone to sprint and get a replacement sent to me. The good people at sprint took care of the replacement process very professionally!
Then when I got the new phone, I had the same OLD problems! It's like it picked up where the old phone left off except the screen was working - for now....
In all honesty, I wouldn't recommend this "phone" (and I use that term VERY loosely!) to anyone!
Since the cons portion of this interview give me a 15 word maximum, I'll state the cons IN FULL now.
CONS! (a plenty!)
-no multi-tasking
-GPS doesn't work
-very weak signal, leads to loads of dropped calls - and sprint isn't known for dropped calls like other companies
-Camera response is very slow
-very slow to view pictures
-music player suddenly and for no reason breaks
-touch screen isn't very responsive
-web browser shrinks text to a point where it can't be read automatically
-SprintTV is grainy and choppy
-Terrible speakerphone
-Bluetooth issues
I'm so ready to get rid of this, Thank goodness I'm a premier customer, I can upgrade after only dealing with this for ONE year! HTC Evo 4G here I come! Review coming in June...
