Good only if you want music
Pros
Small size, 2 GB MP3 music, cool style
Cons
Proprietary headset, tiny keypad, truly lousy photos
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
If you have tiny hands, want MP3 music, and a nifty-looking phone, this is the one. If you want real functionality, choose a different model.
When my ancient Kyocera died, I found myself in dire need of a new cell phone. I got this one through Verizon for "free" (with extension of the service plan). On paper (or on a computer screen), the features look great. In reality, though, this phone is a frustration in a cute package.
The good:
Colors - Mine is red, which is cool because I love red.
Size - Small, lightweight, which means it doesn't bog down my purse.
Music - holds 2 GB of MP3 music. Music is transferred easily enough via Windows Media Player.
Accessories - Comes with headphones and a wall charger; USB cord for computer.
Keypad - OK for small fingers.
Camera phone - would appeal to some users, but not to me...and not to anyone who wanted even halfway decent photos.
Style: OK, I admit, this phone's switchblade action is cool.
Tools: Standard calendar, calculator, and so on, which function wel enough. See below for specifics on Tools.
The bad:
Size - Some people may find this phone is too small. Folded, it measures 3 3/4 inches; open, it measures 6 inches.
Music - 2 GB might not be enough to the audiophiles, and iTunes users will not be able to interface this phone with iTunes. You have to use Windows Media Player. Also, you can't use your own music as ringtones. Any customized ringtones must be purchased from Verizon. I've tried every hack and work-around available on the 'net, and none has worked.
Accessories - The headphone jack is proprietary; takes a shorter plug than your average headphones. If you need to replace your headphones, you're going to pay around $20 by the time you add in shipping. Also, mine did not come with a car charger.
Keypad: If you don't have small fingers, you will hate this. I don't text, but if I did, this phone would be a nightmare for texting.
Camera: Photo quality is dreadful, even for a cell phone camera.
Style: I am waiting for the cool switchblade function to break.
Tools - STOP WATCH: The stop watch function is a joke. In order to use the stop watch function (which I do a lot b/c I am self-employed and bill by the hour), the phone must be open. If you receive a call, you lose the time accrued on the stop watch. If you close the phone, you lose the time accrued on the stop watch. If you try to do anything but run the stop watch, you will lose the time accrued.
Although the battery life is good in a heavily covered area, my home is located in an area where service is poor (in spite of what Verizon says about coverage). Thus, this phone blows through battery charges in mere hours as it searches for a signal. This suggests to me that the internal antenna, which is located at the bottom of the phone near where most people would hold it to talk (and where there is a sticker that basically says, 'Don't hold the phone here because this is where the antenna lives'), is not as good as the one in my clunky old Kyocera.
Believe it or not, I did some homework before I bought this phone. As I said, the specs look good enough. However, in practicality, this phone has been a disappointment.
