Really beautiful TV

Pros stellar picture, ultra slim, cool, neato remote
Cons sound sucks, no variable audio output, jack-pack not optimized for slim, too manny modes
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  No finer LCD TV, if you agree with me that LED backlights are a kluge.
We've owned this TV for about 2 weeks.  The picture is just awesome and with a little tweaking it produces the best blacks and most vibrant colors of any CCFL conventional LCD TV.  While watching several upconverted DVDs, we had the feeling like we were looking through a WINDOW.  There is something about an active display that looks even better than the image displayed at a movie theater !!

The main downside is the sound, which is pretty awful, so awful that I'd say DON'T buy the the TV unless you have a home theater sound system.  To add insult to injury, Samsung DOESN'T provide a variable audio output (other than the headphone jack), so you'll always be reaching for your home theater remote control, or you'll be using a special headphone jack-adapter on the side of the TV ALWAYS if you want to control the sound from your TV remote or satellite remote control.  Very dumb, samsung!

So you're really just buying a monitor here, not a Television.  What's worse, when you put DVI into the PC input of the TV, you cannot change the colors (the probably don't do any color DSP processing, so as to display the images with lower latency.)  Anyway, that's a bummer for many gamers!

Which brings me to the second issue. This TV is advertised as "super thin" and suitable for "low-profile mounting". This is the only reason to pay the extra $200 vs. the model 750.  Well, on the back of the TV the power cable goes RIGHT and it's in the center of the TV, while the HDMI inputs go STRAIGHT OUT of the TV, forcing you to KNOCK A HOLE in your wall or waste at least 1" of depth with a right-angle HDMI converters, as the jack pack is not recessed and is not angled to support low-profile mounting. And they STACKED THREE HDMI cable ports CLOSELY, which means that typical 90-degrees converters WILL FOUL EACH OTHER AND BECOME UNUSABLE. Why did they put the power cable in the middle of the TV, pointing the cable away from the jack pack, making me knock TWO holes in the wall for a low-profile mount? DUMB, VERY DUMB, SAMSUNG!

If you don't NEED a 2-inch thick TV, I highly recommend the 750 model (with much better sound), or even the 650 model.  I don't think the extra electronic gizmos on the 750 and 850 models are worth paying for, since these standards come and go.

The only other thing I've noticed is that when adjusting the color, there are several "modes" (such as "Movie Mode") which will enable some adjustments and disable others.  This is far inferior to a user interface where all the adjustments are available, all the time.

We payed $2249 and are extremely happy with the deal that we got.  We'd have been happy paying anything less than $2500.  We thought we were going to have to buy a 46" TV, but these prices dropped $1000 just 3 months ago !
