Samsung SyncMaster 914V: Pure LCD Awesomeness!

If you want an inexpensive but really nice monitor and don?t have the need or space for a widescreen monitor, then this is for you!
When I got my new computer early in May of 2007, I was excited to finally have the option of getting a flat-screen monitor! After looking at several, and the salesman helping me choose, I finally settled on the Samsung SyncMaster 914V--and it has been a great choice!
The Monitor
The monitor is a 19" viewable flat-panel LCD monitor with crystal clear resolution and an attractive, simple, casing. The casing surrounds the monitor with about an inch or so border, while the stand raises the monitor up several inches making it a comfortable view. The monitor is analog, but looks very nice with my set-up and my NVIDIA GeForce 7350 LE graphics card. The colors are very sharp and the text is very crisp. I have no flickering or refresh rate issues, and I use this monitor for hours on end with no issues. The viewing angle works no matter how I have it on my desk and it take quite a bit of angle before it gets blurry.
The monitor weight 13.1 pounds, making it a very light and easily movable monitor. It can also be wall-mounted with the provided base. The dimensions are 7.7 inches deep (making it allow for much more desk space), 16.9 inches wide, and 17 inches tall while on its stand. This monitor has a great sized screen and does not take up much desk real-estate at all! I am extremely pleased by this!
My experience
I use this monitor for text-editing, spreadsheets, financials, web-surfing, game playing, picture viewing, TV watching, and for movies…it excels in all of these functions! The only missing thing with this monitor is that it is not wide-screen, which I would really like.
Controls
The monitor has 5 under-front buttons that are easy to use, but tough to see in the dark. The center button is the power button, and thankfully has a little LED for easy seeing in the dark. The other buttons control the menu and auto-features. The two buttons on the right control a direct brightness button, and a "let-the-monitor-try-to-adjust-itself" button, which works okay. While in the menu, the four buttons work together to select sub menus and options. The second button from the left is the MagicBright button that has 4 pre-selected monitor configurations: custom (you can edit this one), Text, Internet, and Entertain, which are supposed to be best suited for each type of activity. I pretty much always have mine on Text—its easiest on my eyes, and I do lots of typing and web-surfing.

The menu has options for:
Picture: brightness and contrast
Color: tone, control, and gamma
Image: coarse, fine, sharpness, H- and V- position
OSD : Language, H- and V-position, transparency, and display time (OSD = On Screen Display)
Setup: image reset and color reset
Information: displays current settings
The menu take a few tries to get the hang of, but then is okay navigation wise--but not very intuitive.
Resolution
The native resolution of this monitor is 1280 x 1024 (the maximum) and works fine at this setting. The aspect ratio is a standard 5:4 ratio.
The Downside
This monitor is not widescreen, does not have USB support, nor DVI support.

Final Thoughts
If you want a cheap (dollar-wise) but really nice monitor and don't have the need or space for a widescreen monitor, then I highly recommend this sharp, clear, and small-space taking monitor!
