The Bottom Line:
Excellent sharpness, color rendition, DVI input, and refresh speed. Consider something else only if you want a larger display, or one that can operate in portrait mode.
I bought this monitor as a space-saving replacement for a Dell 17-inch CRT (which is quite sharp and bright). I went down to the local Fry's, and this was the LCD they recommended most, considering my requirements: sharpness of text, accuracy of color, DVI input, and reliability. I also play the occasional DVD. (I am *not* a gamer; therefore, I was not heavily influenced by the claimed 8 ms refresh rate.)
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the 730B! I am currently driving it in analog mode, but my next computer has a graphics adapter with DVI output. The salesperson assured me that DVI makes a big difference in color rendition; unfortunately, the display setup at Fry's did not allow me to see that.
Text sharpness is excellent (even for dense MS Word and PDF documents - I run 1280x1024 resolution); brightness "too good" - so reduce it to around 70% for most uses; contrast great; color fidelity appears very good (the one DVD I've viewed looks great; I haven't done much photo viewing yet).
The main thing I don't like is that it's very hard to adjust settings: if there are labels above the tiny buttons underneath the bottom edge of the bezel (which is nicely thin), they're illegible, and functioning - i.e., which button to use for which purpose - is not obvious.
Secondly, the stand is a bit light, making it vulnerable to shaking (but not tipping), and adjustability is minimal.
Third, there's no DVI cable - and I'm hoping the video card installed on my new computer has one.
Finally, the instructions are not well written, and the set-up disk does not install. For example, they tell you to install the set-up disk, no matter what OS. Having wasted an hour trying to get it to install, I called Fry's; a PC technician assured me it wasn't necessary for Windows XP, where Plug 'n Play is fine.
All in all, I got what I wanted, for a reasonable price. And I didn't get what I didn't want (such as bad-sounding speakers). Definitely recommended!
