Solid camera for a lowest price
Pros
Good quality outdoors, 680k chip, nice digital effects, firewire DV port
Cons
poor battery life, low light picture has snow
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Lowest priced DV camcorder on the market when comparing to the models with similar features. Nice blend of quality and reliability.
After I've done my research on DV I decided to go with this camera and after using it for a 6 month I still think that i got a very good deal for my money ($524 from JandR.com ).
It has a 680k chip which guarantees good picture quality but only in good lighting conditions. Indoor footage sometimes has some "snow flakes? which can be avoided by turning more lights on. Zoom is powerful and fast but a little hard to control accurately.
When comparing to the footage done by my friend's Sony 110 under the most lighting conditions (except low light indoors) quality is similar, therefore Sony 110 is twice more expensive.
I do all the editing in Adobe Premiere and was pleasantly surprised by this camcorder ability to record footage back to the DV tape.
The only serious draw back i have encountered so far is a poor battery life. One hour battery that comes with camcorder lasts about 45 minutes. Extra battery is available in two hour version which should make it enough for the most users.
Digital effects are nice and some cannot be found in other cameras. My favorite is "Make Up" which makes picture black and white except for the color you choose (red, yellow, blue, green
