Samsung Gleam Doesn't Really Shine...

The Samsung Gleam has an average-size, clam-shell design. The front of the phone was "shiny" when I first got it, which seemed to be the inspiration for the name. This was very cheaply made and has gotten so scratched in the last year that they should have named the phone "dull."
The phone's performance is lackluster in many important areas. The battery life wears down pretty quickly, lasting only a few phone calls before I get low battery warnings. The reception is spotty as compared with other Verizon phones in the same areas (my wife also has Verizon). The speakerphone doesn't go very loud, nor is the microphone sensitive enough for the other caller to hear me clearly. The volume is okay during handset calls.
The phone's maximum ringer volume isn't very loud. At full volume, I often don't hear the phone in my own pocket.
The phone has text messaging, which is very difficult to type with. The word function uses an illogical dictionary that fails to recognize some common words while choosing other rarely used words. It takes me forever to type a text message. This is only further burdened by the awkward layout of the number pad. The buttons are too small and adjoined in a way that makes it easy to hit the wrong number.
The phone's screen is pretty large. It has a camera, which is of average quality for a cell phone camera.
Overall, this was a below average phone. I'm looking forward to replacing it when my two-year contract is up.
