The Bottom Line:
Avoid this phone. Spend your money on something else.
Well I got this phone because my Kyocera 6035 went for a swim in the John. Anyway, to make a long story short, luckily I took out the insurance. Unfortunately, the insurance company could only give me the Sch I600 as they had no more Kyoceras (which by the way I loved) as a replacement. So, after using this phone for over a year, I think Samsung, Microsoft and Verizon need to really think about recalling this phone and giving people back their money for the following reasons:
T9 entry really blows. Palm based smart phones with a stylus and touch screen are far superior. T9 is extremely frustrating to use beyond entering a name in the address book. Come on, a smartphone is used for notes, tasks, e-mail and other things. You need a better form of entry. So needless to say, I did not use any Smart Phone functions because of the key pad.
Mobile Media Player is a bad attempt at trying to marry the phone with a media player. It has no play list nor any functionality other than play, volume, stop, forward and reverse.
Transferring songs is amazingly frustrating and slow. You have to sync and the phone has to convert the file into mobile media player format. A song can take 10 minutes or longer.
Screen is amazingly small and blinding.
Battery life is pitiful. Two hours of songs and you are done. Half hour of talk and the battery is cooked.
This is an unsmart phone. There is no real useful included software. In theory you can store pictures and video. But, no included software makes it difficult. So, you have to buy after market software. Unfortunately, I have tried several after market software packages and none installs correctly. Once intalled, it does not work because they are not compatible with this phone.
Support from Samsung is pitiful. The user manual is worthless. Call support gets you voice mail that is never returned. E-mail works no better. Online support is nearly nonexistent.
Verizon took forever to offer windows mobile 2003. But, I did not notice any improved functionality on this phone. Maybe for other phones it was an upgrade but for this phone, it added not additional functionality.
Windows has nearly no support for this Windows Mobile 2003. Windows Mobile is less than a half assed effort by Microsoft.
The phone is horrible. There is too much static for the other party to hear you. The headset is useless. Volume is to low to use it in noisy places. Dialing is cumbersome because tapping a key results in the number actually getting entered nearly two seconds later. So, you end up tapping the key again and messing up the phone number.
Save your money and you won't be disappointed. I will not buy a Samsung Phone again. I will never buy a Microsoft based product again other than desktop software. Verizon needs to get with the times and look at phones like their competitors offer.
The phone also frequently requires a hard reset indicating there are probably memory leaks.
