The Bottom Line:
3Yr Warranty, Samsung has Proven Quality Manufacturing Experience
I bought this display for my Home Theatre to replace my Sony 36XBR TV from a few years ago after having a very good experience with the Samsung 21.3'' LCD.
With the expensive but very cool Samsung Pneumatic Floorstand FS420 this TV is a showstoper with HDTV signals and DVD's playing through either of the Component DVI inputs. The Samsung image processor is AWESOME. For video/TV I couldn't see anything lesser about the picture this EDTV than more expensive HDTV Plasmas. The picture on all Plasmas is Far superior to any images I have seen on LCDs or DLPs. Despite what I have read, large LCD's may have higher resolution but they just do not display moving pictures right or view off center as well.
Another reason I bought this Display was that it did NOT have the attached external speakers of some of the others and was thinner and lighter than the others on the market. The setup pretty much assumes you have an existing integrated surround system/DVD which you can get from Samsung/Sony or go for the gold and buy a Bose w/Jewel Cubes (although this will cost as much as the TV). Hopefully Samsung will leave the audio-Amp out of the next version of this TV completely, as it just adds weight and bulk to what could be an even thinner monitor.
The only Video limitations I have encountered are some very subtle and quick gradient irregularities and scene change blockiness on HDTV (but not DVD) which leads me to belive this is a compression artefact of the Cable System. Computer games & Digital Pictures look great through the DVI with amazing scaling but websurfing small text readibility suffers from the inherent limitation of EDTV and possibly a 42" size plasma in general.
The black level when the set is off is lower than the Pioneer "deep cell encased" technology. Sony is Higher resolution But those two displays are 2x the price and the other "monitors" & I think the image scaling circuitry and processing circuitry, & packaging, on the Samsung is abetter balance.
