The Bottom Line:
Anyone who needs to watch PAL tapes in the US will find this VCR to be a good buy. Good looking vcr that feels well built.
I bought the Samsung SV-5000W for really only one reason. I needed to record some PAL videos into NTSC tapes. I didn't want to pay alot for a vcr that would find limited use in my home. I was surprised to see how few PAL VCRs are available in the USA and that most were very expensive. The Samsung unit seem to hit the right price point I was looking for and decided to purchase it.
The video playback quality for PAL is excellent. I was able to make nice copies to NTSC with no problem. I haven't done much else with the machine so I can't comment on the various outputs this machine can do. There are many! Samsung includes most of the cables you will need and a few things I didn't recognize but I suppose people from other parts of the world would know. The manual is standard fare, nothing great but not all that bad. I figure people buying a vcr like this would know what they are doing.
Overall, the unit has a nice silver case and a pretty well laid out remote control. I have no hesitation recommending this vcr to someone who needs a worldwide vcr.
