The Bottom Line:
Samsung TVs are great, but their Blu-Ray players have a history of issues, and customer service is non-existent.
We got this blu-ray player when we bought our LCD TV (also a Samsung), and it worked fine for the first 6 months. It was god-awfully slow (boot up time was in the range of 20-30 seconds, and it took upwards of 2 minutes to load a disc), which was annoying. But the major problem is that right after 1 year passed, it started having major failures. The remote stopped working, and we changed the batteries - to no effect. We then realized that we couldn't turn the player on or off via the remote (Blu-Ray or TV remote) OR by the power button. The fast forward and rewind buttons stopped working on the machine.
Then we started losing the ability to see Netflix via the machine - no matter how we tried, it gave a simple - but ultimately unhelpful - "Not Available" message when we tried to start it. All of our other connection are fine with the internet, and we can access internet content via different discs. Just Netflix won't work.
We tried resetting the remote, we attempted resetting the player itself but it never responded. The remote was useless (which is one of the ways of resetting the player), and the TV remote doesn't have the right controls. Basically we were stuck.
When you check with the forums, there are a ton of people with these same issues, and they are all getting the same responses we did - well, send it in for a $100 - 150 repair and we'll see what we can do. Unfortunately, that's more than the player is worth.
So, we ordered a Sony Blu-Ray - after the combination of crappy construction and horrid customer service from Samsung, we're avoiding their Blu-Ray players (although our TV is great). I don't think this model is available in too many places now, but I would avoid picking them up used or on the cheap because you will end up paying in frustration.
