Good Home theater for the price, a few downsides
Pros
Adequate to good sound. Plays a good range of disc formats. Good value.
Cons
No Shuffle feature. No customizable equalizer. Inadequate Fast playback.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
A good Home Theater for the price, with an above average sound quality for home theaters. If you can live without a shuffle feature, this is a good pickup.
Overall, I am happy with this system. For the price, the system is definitely a good value. As an earlier review stated, many of these all-in-one systems are glorified shelf-systems with a DVD player. However, the ability to play DIVX, MP3, CD-R/CD-RW and JPEG discs is very nice.
The sound is better than mediocre with a decent subwoofer that provides ample bass, even if it is a tad muddled. There are a number of pre-set sound settings that give you enough diversity to work with, but no customizable equalizer setting, so it is a bit limited in that regard.
There are a couple of drawbacks:
1. This system has no shuffle feature. This is actually a HUGE drawback for me. Every DVD and CD player I have ever owned has had shuffle. I can't believe that this feature was overlooked or omitted.
2. An earlier review stated that you cannot FF through scenes, only skip to the next chapter. That is not true, but the feature is still fairly inadequate. You have to hold the Skip button down for a couple of seconds, then let go. The FF cycles through 2,4,8 and 32X speeds. The problem is that to cycle to the next speed, you have to hold, release, hold, release, etc. With 4 speeds, and Fast Forwarding enough times, it is fairly easy to accidentally skip to the next chapter if you are not too precise with the holding/releasing of the button. It's not difficult to do, but after inadvertatnly skipping scenes a couple of times, it gets REALLY annoying.
Overall, I am happy with this system, although if shuffle is a feature you want, look elsewhere.
