The Bottom Line:
If you can-get it.
This is my fourth surround sound system. I think I have a fascination with them. My first one was a 5-disk Kawasaki system putting out only 135 watts. Surprisingly, the sound wasn't bad for tv and cds, but for movies-not good in 5.1 mode. But this was just a started, and served me somewhat well. The second system was a 1000 watt Insignia brand (Best Buy)5 disk changer. Sounds like a step up huh? Nah. it was garbage. The sound wasn't bad, but some cds got jammed in the player within the first 2 days. I took the piece of s**t back and got this awesome machine. How about I tell ya a little about it...
This system is amazing. I ordered it online at circuitcity.com for about $224. It got to my front step in about 2 days. I ripped it open, set it up in about half an hour (long cords, but really easy to set up), and turned it on. WOW! This thing is no joke. At first, the cd I tested didn't sound earth shattering loud, but once I figured out how to put all of the speakers on their maximum setting-I got the results I wanted. Music sounds awesome in this system. The subwoofer WOOFS! When I'm listening at loud volumes, I can actually feel the wind from the sub from about 4 feet away. That literally blows me away. Movies sound great as well. I mean...gunshots, climatic rumbles, explosions, you name it-they all sound awesome. Very very real. Sometimes I have to pause the movie to make sure I'm not hearing something that's actually occuring. I love that! And the best thing about it is-you don't have to crank it up all the way up for it to sound good. Normally, I don't have it above 26-28 for movie viewing. Keep in mind this is 26/28 out of 50, so that should tell ya somethin about this system's power. I mean-Batman Begins sounded just as great in my home as it did in the Magic Johnson theater I first saw it in. Also, unlike the other systems I've purchased, the cords are reallllllly long. I mean...my family room is fairly big, about 30 ft by 40, and the chords stretch far enough from the tv to the opposite walls behind the couches. Anyways, this is an excellent system, and I would recommend it to anyone in the market for a good home theater.
One more thing-I shouldn't plug other systems, but I said I had 4 systems. The 2 before this one, and one in my bedroom, a 400 watt dvd/AM-FM Emerson system. I got it at K-mart for $99 on sale. It was one of my best purchases. The sound from this one is pretty good, not far below the Samsung. I highly recommend that one too. It's the AV400. if you can find it for around 100-get it.
