Pros Sound quality, connections, price, and looks darn good!
Cons Crappy Samsung speaker connections and wire, no batteries for remote included.
Recommended it? Yes

I was looking for a simple, inexpensive, small DVD-surround sound system for my bedroom. Since I'm very quality-conscious, it was important for me to purchase a well-made, good sounding, quality piece.

The problem with HITB's (Home Theatre In A Box) is that although they might appear to... Read full review »

Pros Low Cost GREAT sound quality Many adjustable sound features and presets
Cons Poor Ventilation and body design
Recommended it? No

I bought this system in February of 2006 just before the Super Bowl to go along with the big Sony TV I just bought.

I bought it because the store had a display out and I was extremely impressed with the sound quality ESPECIALLY for the price! The bass was deep and the highs were very... Read full review »

Pros Awesome sound, great price
Cons No fast forward/rewind button for skippin seconds. You can only skip chapters.
Recommended it? Yes

This is my fourth surround sound system. I think I have a fascination with them. My first one was a 5-disk Kawasaki system putting out only 135 watts. Surprisingly, the sound wasn't bad for tv and cds, but for movies-not good in 5.1 mode. But this was just a started, and served me somewhat well... Read full review »

Okay, but beware

Pros Compact, sound quality good
Cons Poorly constructed DVD player
Recommended it? No

Overall, I really like the Samsung HT-P38 except for a cheaply assembled DVD player; several discs it will not recognize (even some brand new ones) and others it will play about half way through and then freeze. I sent it back to Samsung who supposedly "fixed" it and it worked fine for a few months... Read full review »

Good Home theater for the price, a few downsides

Pros Adequate to good sound. Plays a good range of disc formats. Good value.
Cons No Shuffle feature. No customizable equalizer. Inadequate Fast playback.
Recommended it? Yes

Overall, I am happy with this system. For the price, the system is definitely a good value. As an earlier review stated, many of these all-in-one systems are glorified shelf-systems with a DVD player. However, the ability to play DIVX, MP3, CD-R/CD-RW and JPEG discs is very nice.

Pros Price, features
Cons Refuses to recognize most DVDs.Remote cannot be programmed for our HD digital cable box.
Recommended it? No

Overall, we were pleased with the Samsung home theater when playing CDs, but trouble started when we tried to play a rental DVD from Netflix. So far, we have not viewed a single movie on our "new" player (purchased to get better sound with our new HD TV). We have tried five rental discs in the new... Read full review »

Pros Feature Set, Style, Small Subwoofer, AUX Inputs, Flexibility.
Cons None!

I spent a really long time looking at home theater systems, and reading reviews before I actually purchased one, so I had high expectations for whichever system I chose.

When it came time to purchase, my budget was $250-$300, but I really wanted to stay low, because I knew I would need... Read full review »

Cons Doesn't match up to my home stereo. Difficult to get it to progressive scan.

I bought this unit because we were looking to get better sound from our movies. After plugging the system in (which is pretty user friendly), we were looking forward to playing with out new toy. We tried a dvd on and quickly realized that the picture quality was not any better than the magnavox dvd... Read full review »

Samsung HT-P38 Delivers

Pros The unit delivers clear crisp audio.
Cons Unique Samsung speaker jacks on the rear of the DVD player.
Recommended it? Yes

This unit has a lot of bells and whistles for the price. The 800 watt sound output delivers high level crisp audio. The sub-woofer performs well even at low levels. The FM tuner is sensitive and provides for setting 15 stations in the memory. The ability to dim the display is a nice feature in a... Read full review »

Pros The sound is really good
Cons Faulty DVD player

I bought two of these systems as Christmas gifts for my husband and son. My sons works fine so far. After getting my husbands all set up and the speakers mounted we discovered the DVD doesn't work properly. It doesn't recognize any disc in one and two and played about half the movie in three before... Read full review »
