Big disappointment from Samsung
Pros
Flat screen; reasonable cabinet size; lots of menu options; fantastic little brother (753DF)
Cons
This one has problems; not as sharp as the 753DF; irregular color temp
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I can't recommend, based on my experience with this one. Maybe I just got a lemon. Your mileage may vary.
Here's the deal: I had already owned their 17 inch model, the 753DF. I *love* that monitor. The colors are incredible (especially the blues) and the sharpness is unmatched by anything I've ever seen in a CRT of a similar size. So the 955DF seemed like an easy choice...
..but I am almost as disappointed with the 955DF as I am happy with the 17inch 753DF. Where to start?
On initial setup, it took a lot more fiddling to get the display centered and square. But I did it, and things were looking pretty good. Then, I noticed that there was an annoying flickering on just part of the display -- the lower left. This bugged me for some time until I upped the refresh rate to 100 Hz, then that went away (granted, I am hypersensitive to refresh/scanning; I often complain to co-workers that they need to up their refresh rate...it gives me migraines).
I thought that was it, but then I noticed that the left inch or so (vertically) of the display seemed "cooler" than the rest when showing an all-white picture. It was more blue than the rest, which had a warm, yellow cast. Since then, I've noticed other color irregularities, some near the bottom that show up when displaying screens filled evenly with just one color (especially reds).
The bottom line is that this is a decent display. My expectations were very high because of my experience with their other model. This was not bad enough that I sent this back to the vendor, but I'm not sure I'd buy another one based on the experience with this one.
A final comment: I understand that there are TWO versions of this same size monitor from Samsung. The "T/T" model is priced a bit lower than the standard model. I believe mine to be the standard model; it was not sold as a "T/T".
Good luck....
