The Bottom Line:
Awesome value that can't be beat. Great display for the "Average Joe" computer user.
I have had the Samsung 955DF monitor for about a year now and it amazes me that people complain about it. This monitor costs about $150. What are you looking for, perfection for that price? I remember buying a 17" ViewSonic for $700 back in the day and thought I was king of the world. Anyway here is my review...
Pros: The 955DF is first and foremost the best bang for your consumer buck, period. If you are anything but a computer monitor videophile, this monitor will suit your every need, plain and simple. The colors are vivid and well defined. The text is sharp and easy to read. It has a high enough refresh rate at regular resolutions that you will never see a flicker. (1024x768 is what I call regular, 1600x1200 is too small for my tastes) The setup is as simple as it gets. Flat screen. Excellent for gaming. Easy and intuitive controls. Nice and bright, but not too bright. Well known name brand from a company that won't disappear tomorrow should something go awry.
Cons: It's big and heavy, but hey, it's a 19" CRT, they're supposed to be that way. Just make sure you have the deskspace to handle it. The Highlight feature is just about useless, I still don't know what it's for...not really a con, but still.
Summary: If you're in the market for a 19" CRT for cheap, don't bother with the no name brands to save $20-30. Lord knows what will happen if you do and the monitor breaks. Good luck trying to get in touch with tech support. So do yourself a favor and get the Samsung. It will last you many, many years and provide you with a great display at a great price.
