The Bottom Line:
This is so superior to my last phone, two years ago, and I will keep it until a better one comes on the market.
It was time to change my phone as it had been almost 2 years since purchasing the last one. Also my plan with T-Mobile wasn't giving me enough anytime minutes. I started out with them years ago when they were Voice Stream and I only got 75 anytime minutes and 500 weekend ones for $19.95.
I went onto their website to see what special deals they had, and printed them off, before going to our local mall to inquire about them. They had a special promotion, which gave me a free Samsung SGH-t319 phone, 1,000 anytime minutes, and unlimited nights and weekends all for $39.99 with a two-year contract. My old deal didn't give me a free phone last time, I had to pay $50 for it, so I thought this to be a great deal. Therefore I signed up on the spot. The guy in the store removed my SIM card for me and put it into my new phone. He went over a couple of the basics with me and told me that he had given me a camera phone instead of the one advertised.
I thanked him and couldn't wait to try my new phone out. I came home and found out that it was already fully charged. I flipped it open and was pleased to see that the screen is a pale gray color which is very easy to read. The top of the screen has the strength of the signal and the charge in the battery. At the bottom of the screen are the soft key options which are menu and t-zones.
I wanted to make a phone call so I pressed menu and this brought up 9 boxes with pictures of the options. I then found phone book and clicked through until I found my home number. I phoned it and Len picked it up. Next Len phoned me and it worked just fine.
I wanted to delete some old phone numbers and put new ones into the phone. What I love about this phone is the numbers are so large. I wear glasses all the time and could read them without my glasses on. I pulled up the number, then view, next options, and then down to number 5 to delete. It also asks you if you are sure you want to delete this number. To enter names and numbers I couldn't do it from the quick mode on the keypad. I had to go into menu and then on the picture of the phone book, select it, and then press new entry. Once here it was very straight forward to complete.
This phone has a camera so I wanted to try that out. I pressed menu and went into fun and apps, then camera, and option 1, take and send. This brings the screen to take photographs. I have taken a few of my husband and friends. The only thing I didn't like is that there is a charge for sending and storing them on my laptop. Unless I get a spectacular photograph and something extremely unusual I will save my money. I am not sure if this is just with t-mobile or whether other companies charge too. I am keeping my favorite photographs in the camera and one of Len. When I go to England I will take one of my family members over there, so that I can keep them too, rather than have actual photographs in my purse.
As with all of the latest phones this comes with a thick user guide of 178 pages. It lists how to use the functions, menu navigation, entering text, understanding your phone book, messaging, changing your settings, fun and apps, camera, t-zones, health and safety information and the standard limited warranty for 1 year.
I will not be using my phone for text messaging or t-zones to access and navigate the wireless web therefore I am unable to write about them.
My phone is light blue and dark blue on the outside. It has the date and time as well as the strength of the signal and charge showing through the lid of the phone. The camera eye is above it. The SGH-T319 phone is contoured to fit nicely in my hand. It doesn't have the ugly antenna that my 2 year old Motorola had. It holds it's charge really well and I can talk an hour or more and it still looks fully charged.
I changed my ringtone on the phone as it had the t-mobile one that was pre-set. Too many people keep that one and whenever I was out I would hear it and go to my phone. Now I have one completely different and can recognize when it is ringing.
I purchased my phone about three months ago and really love it. The clarity is great and I have used it several times when I have been walking outside with strong winds. I did have to pay $50 for the phone but had to send off a $50 mail in rebate. On the t-mobile website it stated that the phones value was $169.99. However at the store they informed me that it was a $250 phone. I received my $50 back from t-mobile within a couple of weeks which really surprised me.
All I know is that I got a great new phone with more features, better looking, and with the contour it is less likely to slip out of my hand or it's case. My other phone was still a flip top but it was smooth and fell out of the case so one time I almost lost it. It is strong and sturdy and I feel confident that it will last me 2 years until my contract comes up for renewal again. I am so happy to have my new Samsung SGH-T319 phone.
In the past three months I have used my phone as a camera, phoned International as well as U.S.A. and local calls and been really pleased with it. I have used the phone when travelling away from populated areas and it still works fine. This is one I will keep.....well until another free one comes up for grabs.
