The Bottom Line:
If your viewing environemnt is bright, and you want a TV that will impress, this is the TV to get. But for serious dark room viewing, I'd avoid it.
While shopping for TV, the moment I saw it, I want to bring it home. Beautifully curvy bezel with red TOC (Touch of Color), and yes, it's so thin. 1.2". Amazing. And weigh only 49lbs for a 55" screen. The PQ looks great in the store, compare to other LCD and plasmas. Great contrast, vivid color, sharp edges, but these are mostly due to the "demo mode" settings for TV to scream at us in the store.
Upon unpacking the TV at it, I'm still amazed by it. So clean looking. Since it's so light, I have a very easy time mounting it to my TV stand.
My 1st test with it is regular upconverted 1080i DVD using "Fellowship of the Ring" after some calibration to tone down the brigthness and contrast. The image is very sharp, and the TV was able to display much more details than my old 480P 42" plasma. But in the relatively dark room the TV is in, I can easily see the flashlights in the lower corners of the screen on the black bar.
After purchasing a blu-ray player, I watch the rental BD "Journey to the center of earth". Wow! Amazing resolution! But the corner flashlight issue persist, even though the movie is in 16:9 full screen mode. I also notice that if the screen is dark, there are quite a bit of cloudings in few parts of the screen. In another word, the screen uniformity is not great.
This TV also has a feature called "Auto-Dimming", where during darker scenes, the brightness of the screen is toned down a bit. I do not like this feature either, but it does not bother me as much as the flashlights. Plus, there are tips in the internet on how to disable it, which I have verified to work.
So, as nice as this TV is, I will likely have to return it because of the flashlight issue. It bother me quite a bit. I do want to note that if the ambient light of your TV room is light, the flashlight will not be visible. It's only visible in a dark environment.
