The Bottom Line:
Get it. It's cool.
So I got this little gadget because I was tired of burning CD's and carrying around a bulky player that always skipped on me. I did my research and at the time of my purchase this little guy was the best price for the best stuff.
Best stuff includes:
1. Small size
2. Lots of memory
3. Cool looking
4. Works with Mac (Please don't think less of me for owning a Mac, it wasen't my idea)
5. Voice recording (though I don't really use it)
The size was crucial, I wanded something I could forget was there until I wanted to remember it. The Yepp YP-30Sh accomplishes this quite nicely.
I needed lots of memory because I like to listen to lots of music. To justify the purchase, the player had to be able to hold more songs than current CD's. I can usually get about 25-30 songs on mine depending on length and bit rate.
Cool looking was a must and I think the Yepp came in only second in my oppinion to the Sony NW-MS9 series. If you don't care how your player looks then you have a plethera to choose from but if you do then those are the top two in my oppinion.
I have a Mac so the compatibility issue was definately a factor in my choosing this player. The User interface on the comp is a little funny and a bit tedious but other than that I can't really complain.
The voice recording is a very nice feature although I can count on one hand the number of times I have used it. It's just nice to know it's there if I need it.
All in all this thing is a neet little package. The aluminum case is very durrable to bumps, dings, and falls (although I woulden't recomend trying it). The accessories that come with it are for the most part useless unless you are talking about the belt clip. The headphones are too short (really, go out and get a pair of Sony H.ear phones), the armband is uncomfortable and the neck strap is impracticle (Unless you are just going to be sitting, otherwise it bounces all over the place and gets to be a bother when you add in the headphone wires). The belt clip on the other hand is a god-send when it comes to MP3 players. It snuggly holds the little guy in place, allows easy access to all the buttons, and it keeps dings and scratches down to a minimum.
The Yepp has a weird built in feature that keeps you from swapping MP3 files with people so if you deffinately want a player for that aspect, look elsewhere. It has limited file sharing capibilites but each computer has to have the Yepp interface program loaded onto it.
Overall, a great player for the price.
