The Bottom Line:  One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch. I would recommend this radio for it's great sound & nice looks. I'm going to get another one.
I purchased my radio in November & it was useless by May.

NOTE: Right at the top...My radio was defective. After a few months of use, segments of the display no longer showed. It got worse as time went on. The radio still receives & sounds great, but I can't use the clock, alarm, or find a station that's not in memory without the display. This review was done before the problem arose.

This radio receives AM,FM (in stereo through headphones) & the audio of TV channels 2-13.

I bought this radio because of it's unusual styling & the Sangean name that I've trusted for over a decade. I also liked the fact that it has an analog representation of the dial & a tuning knob. These give it a traditional feel, while the "digital" things, such as the buttons & display, made my gadget mind happy. I like the fact that the display & buttons are on top. This leaves almost nothing but speaker visible from the front.

As far as features...it's got a lot for a portable radio. You can set the tuning steps that the up/down buttons use, to either 10KHz (for the Americas) or 9KHz (for the rest of the world). FM steps can be set to 0.1 or 0.2MHz. TV band steps are always 1 channel. When using the tuning knob, you tune AM down to 1KHz, FM to 0.05MHz & TV to each channel. It has 5 memory presets on each band (for a total of 15). You can set 2 separate alarm times for either radio or beep alarm. There's a sleep timer that can be set. The clock can be changed to Daylight Savings Time with the press of one button. Each time you operate the radio, the display & preset buttons light amber for about 15 seconds. You can also turn on the light whenever you need.

This radio receives very well. On AM, it has above average sensitivity & is pretty selective, too. FM is very sensitive as well. TV reception is good too. The finer tuning of the tuning knob helps to get those tough stations on AM & FM.

The sound is awesome for a radio of this size. The bass is very deep & strong. The treble is good without being too intense. The tone knob mainly adjusts the amount of treble you hear.

Now the bad news. The AM band has some annoying internally-generated signals that can interfere with a station you're trying to hear. Some of the buttons had multiple functions depending on whether the radio is on or off. Battery drain is very high. The 4 D batteries don't last very long. This may be due to the lights for the display & the 5 preset buttons. I wish you could turn the lights off, but there's no way to do this.
