Excellent Radio and HD Radio Receiver
Pros
HD Radio quality. Built to work with your home theatre amp.
Cons
(Minor) no digital output.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you want HD Radio to fit into your home theatre system - go for it.
This review assumes you understand why HD Radio is better than normal FM. It concentrates on the HDT-1 and its use.
I bought the HDT-1 as a Christmas present for my wife. She enjoys listening to local FM stations during the day. Our reception is not the best so I was concerned that with our current antenna we might not receive any of the 13 or so HD stations in the Seattle area. Anyway, plugged it in, attached to our Yamaha amp and the external antenna and it brought in almost all of the local HD Radio stations and it sounded excellent.
Our previous radio receiver was a Yamaha radio receiver that cost about $200. The Sangean receives normal FM better than the Yamaha. On HD it rocks!
For anyone with a home theatre system this is about the only HD Radio unit worth considering. The other units currently available are radios with built in speakers etc.
The display is clear and easily readable at 6 feet - you might manage more if your eyes are good.
My only grumble - and its a small one, is I expected a digital (toslink or similar) link from the unit to my amp. All it has is stereo RCA connectors.
UPDATE: You can get a $25 rebate on this product from www.hdradio.com which drops its retail to approx $175.
Still - very happy.
